I recently read an article written by journalist David Cannadine of the BBC News about graduation season. Particularly about the difference between the celebration of graduation season in the United States and in the United Kingdom. Among the differences he pointed out what stood out for me was in the United States, it is termed as commencement, implying the beginning of something. Whereas in the United Kingdom, it’s called graduation meaning coming to an end.
But wherever you are and whatever your definition of graduation is, there is always one thing that’s certain – it’s always shopping season. Especially for new graduates who are off to college or what the grown ups call “the real world” but which to us really is “the real world of parties.” Am I right?
So before we get anymore lost in translation, here are a few items I suggest you include in your Graduation To-Buy list. Let the shopping commence.
College Backpacks
College Backpacks. It was easy picking a college backpack back in the day, just get a JanSport SuperBreak and you’re done. But these days, with so many campuses including the use of laptops and iPads in their curricula it’s best to consider getting a college backpack with built-in laptop compartment. Footwear. The main thing to consider when picking out college shoes is comfort first, style next. College life is busy and it involves going from party to another, I mean, one class to another. Typically, I would prescribe flats for girls. A pair of cute black ballet flats goes well with everything. But, for the perfect mix of comfort and style, I suggest checking out Dolce and Gabbana sneakers to get that sporty look. Or pair it with a dress and cardigan for a more girly style.
Gadgets. Like I mentioned earlier, more and more universities are welcoming the presence of tech gadgets in the classroom as a teaching aid for students.
