A college campus is one of the most crowded places that a person can find. This is a great problem to have, because at least it shows that more and more people are attending college every year. However, without enough room to handle all of the students, colleges will have to start turning away more students than they normally do. Some schools have started working with other means of teaching that effectively let in more students, who are getting the same lessons from the same professors, but they never once have to enter the classroom.
Lecture capture is one of the methods allowing students to view the lectures of their professors in an online setting. If the problem is that the classrooms are too full, and they cannot be made any bigger, then the clear solution is to make it so that students can use online education software in order to learn the same lessons. Colleges all across the country are starting to use distance education software in order to reach students who live in a different place, or simply cannot fit into the allotted space that exists in the classroom. Whether these distant students are sitting in another classroom that is far away, or are in their own homes, they are still getting the experience and knowledge that comes from being in college.
This way schools can fit in much larger amounts of students than they could before. As the population continues to grow, colleges are going to be faced with more and more applicants that meet all of the required standards. While this normally just means that the competition is getting more difficult, at some point there has to be a cut off, and students who are simply smart enough to attend college need to be let in. Thanks to lecture capture, the college campus can have more students attending the college without having to add any more faces and bodies to each classroom.
Plus, this means that proctors and other helpful aids will have to manage these other classrooms that are far away; something like lecture capture is not only expanding the college experience to many others, but it is also creating other education-related jobs. This is all said without forgetting that the professor of each course will now be able to reach a much larger number of students than was possible before. Teaching a small number of people their expert knowledge is important–after all, passing on intelligence has been one of the main focuses of humanity since it began. However, now that the same knowledge can be passed to much larger groups each time the professor has a lecture.
The regulations that colleges have for not letting people in should not have anything to do with only letting in only a the of few best and brightest, but letting in all of the best and brightest who meet the requirements. More smart people existing in the world means that the world will be a much better place; we need more producers, and less consumers. A college campus is one of the last places that people go with the intent of truly learning. With that in mind it makes sense to expand the campus to accept as many people as possible. Creating intelligence and spreading education is one of the most important aspects of our society, so everyone should be in support of something like lecture capture. Let us all study harder, and let us never reach a point where we feel that we have learned all of the things that we will ever need to know. That should never be the case.
