Drafting chairs, like all chairs, are made up of many different parts. Most chairs are made up of a seat, chair back, arm rests, base and several kinds of fabrics and other materials. There are however, differences that make an ergonomic drafting chair unique.
Adjustable height is one of the traits that sets drafting chairs apart from the average chair. The height of many regular office chairs can be adjusted, but not to the same extent as a drafting chair. Drafting chairs are meant to sit higher off the ground than the average chair and therefore have a larger height range.
There are drafting chairs designed for specific activities as well. Certain chairs are made for professors or people who give lectures. Others are made for students and still others for people working long hours, over time or use twenty four hours per day. A drafting chair can be ordered or purchased for a specific individual taking into account their height and weight.
The foot ring is another trait that sets drafting chairs apart from the average chair. The foot ring is located between the bottom of the seat and the base of the chair and is usually made out of metal. The foot ring is an important part of a drafting chair because it allows the user to rest their feet while seated and the height of the chair is such that the user’s feet are not able to rest on the ground.
As with any kind of chair purchase, the person who will use the chair should test the chair out personally. Other parts of the chair such as the arm rests and chair back can also be chosen to suit the user. Some manufacturers even offer a selection of fabric colours and prints which allow you to coordinate the drafting chair with its surroundings.
