Are There No Collateral Bail Bonds?

If you need to post bail for a friend or relative, one of the first things you will probably ask is if there are no collateral bail bonds.

The answer is yes and no.

If you post bail yourself without the help of a bail bondsman, you will be required to post the entire amount usually in cash but in many cases, the court will allow collateral or a combination instead.

But the idea is to not need collateral, right?  This is the trick to use, go to a  bail bondsman and ask about a signature bond.  This is basically a no collateral bail bond since it only requires your signature and the standard fee.  Most bail bondsmen will not offer this to you since it puts them at a higher risk but business is business and they want your business.  They know if they don’t give you a signature bond, then one of their competitors probably will.

By getting a signature bond you will not be tying up your money and you will be able to use that money on other important things like a good attorney for the defendant.

If for some reason, you cannot get a signature bond because of the jurisdiction or because the bail bond business may not be competitive in that area, there are still other ways to use collateral to your advantage.

For instance, some Las Vegas bail bonds  agents are very willing to be creative when it comes to accepting collateral from you.  I suggest you think of things that have value but you don’t need.  So for example, you own a home and a car but you don’t want to use them in case the defendant flees, and you will lose them.   See if the bondsman will accept your second car as collateral.  You will minimize your risk but still be able to help your loved one get out of jail quickly.
