Different Uses for a Lanyard

When most people hear the term lanyard, they automatically think of the identification badge.  This is because lanyards gained their popularity, in part, due to their use with id badges in the workplace.   There are also more great uses for lanyards in everyday life.

The first use, as mentioned before, is with id badges as a way to display and wear the id badge.  Since many employers require their workers to show their ids at all times, they’re a useful and simple solution to this problem.  Because id badges are now being used as security cards, wearing a lanyard also makes using the id badge much easier than a traditional pin display.  If you’re required to swipe your id card multiple times a day, this can add up to a big time savings during the typical work day.  You can take a lanyard off much more quickly than you can unpin a plastic badge holder on your shirt.

Another use of the lanyard that has grown in recent years is with cell phones.  A cell phone neck lanyard is much like an id lanyard, but it contains a clip that can separate the phone from the lanyard quickly if a call is incoming.   This is known as a breakaway clip and it gives great flexibility when carrying your phone with a lanyard.  If a call does come in, you can simply detach the phone from the lanyard by applying pressure to the clip.  After the call is completed, you can reattach the phone by reconnecting the breakaway clip.  This type of lanyard is also a great way to keep track of your phone and protect against the loss of it at all times.

These are two ways in which lanyards can be used effectively each day.  With their flexibility, lanyards make for a low cost, efficient accessory to add to your daily wardrobe.
