If you’re someone who loves God, you are likely doing everything you can to live a life that would be pleasing to Him. This is a simple matter when it comes to choosing between getting a job at a bank and robbing a bank, but there are many times in life when going God’s way is not so obvious. And if you believe in God, you should also believe in the darker powers that are out there trying to push us off in the wrong direction. If God is real, so is Satan and his goal is to turn us away from God. Trusting God is not easy when it’s unclear what God specifically wants.
We believers in Jesus Christ also believe in the power of the Holy Spirit to intervene in our lives. The love of God is such that He has provided believers with a helper who can protect us from evil and point us toward God’s path in our lives. Christian lives are not without difficulty and pain, but God has promised not to push us beyond what we are capable of dealing with.
The way believers stay focused on God in the face of adversity, is by knowing everything in our life is there to serve a purpose. God is preparing us for life in all eternity with Him. Growing the kind of wisdom and knowledge we will need beyond this life is a matter of enduring some difficult times here on this earth. If you truly love God, and your life is still troublesome, this can only mean God believes you are strong enough to take on the extra work, and He may be preparing you for something more difficult down the road.
Adversity for believers can only mean God knows you are strong and He knows you are ready to become even stronger. On the other hand, Satan is hoping you will see your adversity as reason to lose faith in God and move over to the other side. If you are a believer who is feeling overwhelmed by the circumstances of life, take some time to be alone with God in prayer and call on the Holy Spirit to guide you toward victory.
