At the moment the cost of the Kindle 3 reader by Amazon is very reasonably priced. This is the case if you are a regular reader anyway. If you buy a Kindle and hardly use it, it does not really matter how much it costs, that would be a bit of a waste of money! There are three versions of the new Kindle 3 that are on sale. There are two 6″ models, one has Wi Fi access only and the other has Wi Fi and 3G. With this model, you can connect from anywhere with 3G coverage in a variety of countries and join the Amazon Whispernet network where you can download books and use certain online applications. Now a days, the Kindle 3 price is lower than previous models. The other more expensive version is the Kindle DX which has a larger screen as well as 3G access. This model is more expensive than the other two. At the time of writing the price for this model on the Amazon website is $379. So as you can see there is quite a big difference.
To be honest, it depends on what you want to do with your Kindle as to which model is best for you. The 3G access is nice but not exactly essential. If you want to save money going for the cheapest electronic reader in this range is an option. As long as you download the data you require before going out of Wi Fi range there is no need to worry. On my own Kindle I have the 3G service, which does not cost me anything each month, and I do make use of it. But the reason that I use it is just because I have it. Perhaps it is slightly more convenient but you have to ask yourself if this is worth an additional $50. Other than this feature the cheapest Kindle and the 6″ version with 3G are exactly the same.
