When it comes to shopping for presents for men, whether it’s for a Christmas present or a milestone birthday, such as a 30th birthday or a 60th birthday, for example, it’s hard to imagine that with all the thousands of choices available, it can be so darned difficult. As we look through the available items, our minds throw up objections almost as fast as we can check them out.
While many people object to the practice of giving gift cards, there is a lot to be said in their favor. Especially as a man gets older and has accumulated most or all of the stuff he values, he really can be thought of as a man who has everything (that he wants). Even spending a lot of time searching for just the right thing won’t necessarily result in picking out a gift that will be valued by its recipient.
Unless we are particularly close to a man, it’s unlikely that we can actually know just what it is that he values or desires. Most men are rather close-mouthed about such things, and often it’s necessary to read between the lines to get a grasp on those matters and pick out the best presents for men.
However, we can often get a sort of broad brush understanding by becoming aware of what he does in his spare time. Armed with such knowledge, we can than invest in a gift card that will allow him the freedom to make a particular choice from a range of items.
For example, if we know that he enjoys working in his wood shop, we still may not know what particular tools he’s like to have but doesn’t. A gift card for a specialty woodworking shop or even a home center is something he can put to good use.
Gift cards have the added advantage of being cumulative. If several people give cards for the same place, he can apply them to get himself something that none of the givers could afford to have given on their own. Thus, in the example cited, he could get himself a top grade table saw when nobody alone could have gotten him any such thing.
