How to Store Your Family’s Bikes

Bicycles are tricky items to store. They don’t seem to take up much room, but with the bulkiness of handlebars and pedals added to the space they consume, they’re quite large indeed. The classic method of leaning your bikes against the wall is not a recommended method — you could damage or misaligned your handlebars and Murphy’s law dictates that unless they’re secured in some way they’re going to fall over. The least that could happen is damage to your bicycles, the worst that can happen is damage to a family member the bikes have fallen over onto. Saving the floor space that would be used up in the herd of bicycles is reason enough to look for a better solution.

A single bicycle is relatively easy to store with the many different styles and variations of the bicycle wall mount. What happens, however, when you have a whole family of bikes? Unless you have a wall mount for all the different size bikes, another solution is going to be needed. When you add in the different styles of bike likely to be present in a family bicycle group (women, children, etc), the problem can be even more difficult to figure out.

If your garage is large enough, the storage solution can be as easy as an individual rack for each bicycle and mounting them on the wall. Not only will it secure your bikes neatly and safely, it’s a great way to show them off as well. If you don’t have a big enough garage, or a garage at all, a bicycle storage shed is the answer for a dedicated storage solution. Most bike sheds have enough floor area to stow two adult bikes and a few children’s bikes with a little forethought. With creative shelving solutions, bike tools and accessories could even be stored in the shed along with your bikes, making the option even more convenient.
