Cot Bed Duvet Tips

When purchasing a cot bed duvet and pillow or cot bed duvet cover, a few tips can be helpful. First, a duvet is a form of bedding that reduces the chore of bed making. It is a single flat bag that is filled with insulating material, traditionally down or feathers. However, today they can be found to be filled with many other materials, such as cotton, wool or even polyester batting. The duvet is used in place of the bottom and top sheet, blanket and bedspread. Comforters are often mistakenly called duvets. However, comforters are intended to be used on top of the traditional bedding for warmth. Traditionally, the Europeans used two duvets during cold weather, one to be slept on and one to be used for warm cover. The insulating properties were highly prized.

For the cot bed, the duvet and its cover is an excellent choice, as this bedding normally requires more frequent laundering. It will lie flat and provide the perfect insulation needed, whether cool air flow in warm weather or warmth in cool temperatures.

cot bed duvetUse of the cot bed duvet cover and pillow are easily removed and stand up to many washings, allowing the duvet and pillow to last much longer, due to less wear and tear.

When shopping for the cot bed duvet cover, remember that the thread count will have a bearing on strength and softness. The higher the thread count, the softer and stronger the material. Another tip to remember is that the duvets are rated by tog. The tog rating will range from 4 to 9, with the higher rating offering the most warmth. This allows you to choose the right cot bed duvet for the warmth or coolness desired. For the most usefulness in normal climates, some manufacturers offer sets of two duvets. One will have a low rating for warm temperatures and one with a higher rating for colder temperatures. This allows the two to be used in combination or individually, to suit any climate.
