For those of you who live in New York City, you may or may not find it a beautiful city. It does have its perks and it is bustling with people (as well as noise, pollution and crime) but most people would not call it a scenic country like Switzerland. It does, however, have some great spots to breathe in some fresh air, go for a bike ride or rollerblade ride and enjoy the greenery that will surround you. Most New Yorkers though, do not have time to stroll leisurely in park though, so many of the people you will see there will have the ubiquitous camera slung around their neck, marking them instantly as a tourist.
In New York City proper (meaning Manhattan), there are a couple of good spots to go for a bike ride. You would first want rent from one of the rental places which will rent you one of their cheap bmx bikes or their cheap road bikes if you don’t have your own bike. The cost depends on the location you rent it from but many of the big parks will have rentals available.

The best and biggest place to ride is Central Park. They have bike trails that will give you some resistance as there are hills that you will have to surmount.
The Brooklyn Bridge is another great place to ride even though you won’t get the benefit of the trees and the fresh air as you would in Central Park. During the day, it is teeming with locals and tourists but there are bike lanes that you can use to enjoy the splendid view on New York City from way up high.
Flushing Park is a bit out of the way in Queens but it also has some great biking space and also the benefit of the greenery and the delicious fresh air.
