Most people already know that school is boring, however if you start thinking about quitting, or even homeschooling, everyone suddenly starts making comments about how you need to get an education, as if the only place you can learn is in a school.
While homeschooling and unschooling are two of the best alternatives to attending public school, they can also be the hardest to be able to persuade your parents into letting you try, and you don’t end up with any kind of “proof”, such as a diploma in order to give to a potential college or employer. There are generally a couple of options for getting alternative diplomas: a GED, or a diploma from a high school online.
Participating in an online high school can be exactly like going to a normal high school, apart from the fact that all of its classes are online. Online classes? You can take these classes at your own time and pace. Tests? You can take any tests online when you are ready to take them. Teachers and questions? There are numerous chat rooms as well as forums online for this exact purpose. Friends? Whenever you want, you are free to go out and visit with people, even during the day. You can talk with them online. You might even organize your time and life in any way you choose.
Getting your high school diploma is easy when you use an online school and it is considered to be equivalent to obtaining a regular diploma from any high school, but only if you choose an online school that is properly accredited. When the school is accredited, no employer or college should give your diploma a second though about the value it is perceived to have.
Many employers and colleges (approximately 95 to 97%) will accept the GED, but this is not true with every one of them.
Some high schools online might have an age requirement, but generally you will be able to fully complete high school and do it in a shorter amount of time than other students if you choose to work hard and get it finished fast. By comparison, getting the GED will mean that you will need to be a minimum of 16 years old, and sometimes even 17 or 18, depending on which state in the US that you live.
