Growing up I have always had a fascination for comic book superheroes and one that really stood out was Batman. Maybe it was his mysterious persona that was sometimes even sinister, but he was the most relatable character to me. He was not gifted with super powers but he was wealthy enough to design gadgets that would help him overcome his nemesis.
Unlike Superman, he could not fly, but he could glide. He did not possess speed but he had the bat mobile. His desire to stop criminals was driven by the tragedy of losing his parents. His altruism could even be deemed as selfish, a way for him to cope with his loss. Nevertheless, people of Gotham City still loved him albeit they also somehow feared him. Every time the bat signal was flashed with the Batman logo, you knew that people needed him. The Batman logo is also one of the coolest things about the character. It is a very memorable symbol that speaks volumes about the character. Dark, mysterious, strong – this is what the Batman logo personifies.
Many have also grown to love the Batman character as evidenced by the commercial box-office success of the movies. Avid fans traipse around proudly wearing their Batman logo t shirts and Batman logo hoodie. It seems that every merchandise stamped with anything batman is going to sell. Batman logo shirts, mugs, games – name it they have it. But probably the most prized batman collector’s item would be a first edition Batman logo comic. Logo from the original comic book was a little different from the present batman logo. Different colors were used then and even the design itself was tweaked. Over the years, the Dark Knight has seen an evolution in his symbol. But even with the changes, the character is still well loved.
Up to this day, I find myself sometimes doodling and drawing the Batman logo on a piece of paper, which brings me back to my childhood days. Drawing with pen and paper seems archaic now with so many free logo designs software packages available, which would probably look a lot better than my work of art. I may not be the best drawer, but I sure did have a lot of fun then, daydreaming that I was Batman’s sidekick.
