When I was in high school the marching snare drum was the most important insurance in our band. We had one numerous competitions throughout the years based on the fact that our marching snare drum player was the best in the county. This particular instrument is not one that should be overlooked when it comes to the quality of music that is being produced by a marching band. Too often the band will be more heavily focused around the horn and wind instruments that make the melody of the songs you’re playing and not enough emphasis is placed on the percussion instruments. If you have a band like the one I was in high school you will most likely need it quality drummer to be able to play the marching snare drum to the level that is required to win in competitions.
This all starts at a very young age and should be embraced by parents when they see their children are interested in a musical instrument. Our drummer began playing at the age of four when he found a small drum set in his basement. It turned out his uncle was a fantastic drummer several years ago but have since given up the instrument to pursue a career in architecture.
These days if your child is interested in a musical instrument you can easily pick up one on the Internet much cheaper than you can in music stores. Often times parents are worried that they may spend a lot of money on an instrument that their son or daughter may lose interest in. Some of the cheapest instruments around these days are drum sets and you can pick up a junior drum set for your child as young as age 5. If you get your son or daughter a junior drum set be prepared for the wonderful music they could eventually make.
