For top quality and great sounding guitars, I always turn to Ibanez because of their long history in the business and more importantly because I have had nothing but great success with their instruments; especially the Ibanez RG.
The RG has a sleek body (popularly known as a superstrat) with long cutouts and a thin profile. Most RG guitars are made from basswood but there are several sub models made from mahogany and even ash. The tonal characteristics of the basswood bodies are typically deep and warm; very similar characteristics with the mahogany bodied versions as well. The ash bodies tend to lean toward the neutral part of the overtone spectrum.
Pickup choices are plentiful with the RG series. There are several different combinations of pickups made by Ibanez as well as DiMarzio and EMG too. For a really high output tone I would recommend going with the 81/85 combo from EMG as this is a typical choice of guitarists that play heavy metal or similar music. For a more balanced output that is medium to high you can check out the other two pickup brands mentioned above.
For the ease and lightning fast speed of playing, some Ibanez RG guitars are manufactured with neck-through wizard style necks, others with bolt-on versions of the same neck. The choices of wizard range from the newest model (the super wizard) to some older models, such as the Wizard II and III. These necks are laminated and reinforced, which allows them to be constructed very thin and flat. That makes them extremely fast and comfortable to play on.
Overall, the RG series is a very popular model of guitar from Ibanez among metal and hard rock guitarists and rightfully so. Most are manufactured in Japan and are the highest quality specs among their many manufacturing countries. They are a not a cheap guitar and will cost anywhere from $800 and up depending on the sub model you choose, but they are definitely worth it for the fabulous tone and quality you get in the end.
