If you love to drive and you love to travel then you have almost certain dreamed at least once of taking a truly epic road trip and having a drivers holiday. The fantastic thing about the driving holiday is the freedom of just taking to the road and going where you want to go – no need to follow anyone’s agenda but your own.
That said, it can be a daunting thing to do, and scary for your first time. Even so, I would urge any keen traveller to try it at least once, I am sure you will be hooked. So just to inspire you, here are the top 3 countries to drive around, in no particular order.
1: France
France has an awful lot of terrain crammed into a relatively small space and every possible type of road. From the curvy hairpin bends and windy roads that flow through the Alps to the beach side strips of pristine tarmac in Monaco. This is a wonderful place for anyone who loves to drive for the sake of driving. You’d better have a strong stomach on those bendy mountain roads though.
2: America
America is the classic paradise for muscle car fans. Ok so if you’re not going to find a whole lot of bendy asphalt to through your car into; America is the destination of choice for those who want to cruise along endless roads and just soak in the scenery and the roar of the V8. I’m sure I don’t even need to tell you of course, but route 66 from LA to Chicago is the ultimate road for any muscle car lover and one you simply have to cross off your list.
3: Africa
Now Africa is a completely different proposition again, and probably not the right terrain to take you expensive sports car or your meaty muscle car. If you really want to do it right you can’t go far wrong with a simple land rover and a healthy taste for adventure. Africa has unbelievable expanses of flat land which is truly a sight to behold, not to mention a wealth of off-roading opportunities if you fancy.
