El Valle de Anton, Panama’s Beauty

Back in the 80’s, El Valle de Anton was a place almost exclusively visited by Panamanians wanting to have a good time in a small, quiet mountain town, near enough from the city, as to be able to go there one morning and return in the afternoon.

It was a popular destiny for families during the weekends and school summer vacation.  Its famous mountain, La India Dormida, the Sunday Market, El Macho and Las Mozas waterfalls and the rivers around the area were the places visited for entertainment back then.

During summers and weekends, the place was always full of teenagers riding 4 wheels or motorcycles.

There were only one or two hotels and the land was very cheap to buy…

Time passed by, and now we have a very different Valle de Anton: the old attractions all still are there, but now there is a snake exhibition, a beautiful zoo, a hot springs visitor center was developed and a zip line (which now is the main activity) was built.

Nowadays, beside the local resident and weekend home owners, there are some foreigners living in El Valle.  Its nice temperature and beautiful green surroundings make this place attractive for American’s retirees.  There are over 20 hotels, some of them world class (but low impact built we must clarify), with restaurants where gourmet dishes can be found.  New supermarkets have opened, so there is no need to leave town to get whatever is needed.

If the reader is planning a Panama tour, El Valle is a must see place.  With its new zip line and the hike through the jungle to get to the starting point, a visit here can be considered a real overseas adventure travel.  Toucans, sloths and many more animals can be seen around.

The place is just 1.5 hours from Panama City.  We highly recommend it.

The Moving Picture Boys at Panama

With a series of puffs and chugs a big, shiny motor cycle turned from the road into the graveled drive at the side of a white farmhouse. Two boys sat on the creaking saddles. The one at the front handle bars threw forward the clutch lever, and then turned on the power sharply to drive the last of the gases out of the twin cylinders.
