Here’s a tip from somebody in the know. If you want to get a whole bag of Brownie points from your missus, take her away for Valentine’s Day. Holidays in February are super cheap and you’re going to be doing yourself a big favor if you book well in advance, plan the whole trip, and make sure that your wife is treated like a queen. I’m serious! I came up with this plan about five years ago when I was absolutely sick and tired of taking my wife out to our local restaurant for Valentine’s Day. I mean, seriously … I was getting ripped off blind, like every other schmo.
So, I decided that enough was enough. It was just one of those days that was invented by somebody to rip you off. And the reason why it was invented, by whoever, was to try and scrape as much extra money out of every male pocket as humanly possible. And to be perfectly frank, I hate that day she.
I always do romantic things with my wife. I will buy her chocolates galore at the drop of a hat. If I see a nice bunch of flowers that I think you will like I will be the first one to pick them up and bring them home. But I don’t like being told when to be romantic.
Then I saw some great deals for cheap holidays to Spain. That set my mind thinking. I got onto the Internet and searched for the best hotel room that I could find in Barcelona. I found a hotel room at a fraction of the cost that would have cost me during the summer months. I booked it straight away for four days in this beautiful city. I booked the flights, which cost me €20 return by the way, the car hire, a fancy restaurant for each of the night that we were staying in the city, and I made sure that my store of Brownie points for the next year was full to the brim. And the best part about it was it didn’t cost me a fortune.
