One of the things that you need when you go camping is a tent. If this is your first time going camping then you need to get a tent. When you buy a tent you want to make sure that you get one that will last you for years to come. The weight of the tent does not matter if you are not going to use it backpacking or going to canoe camp. When the descriptions says “2 man tent” that is what it is with very little storage space. It is best to make sure that you get the next one up to get the extra storage and still have room for your camping airbeds.
For a family, it is advisable to buy one that is bigger than your family. There are also multi-one tents, which provide privacy for both sides with a tent wall inside with a door that zips. You can also tents with a screen room. This is good if it rains because you can set up the table and eat outside in the screen room.
Check the tent poles and make sure that they are made from aluminum because the fiberglass poles are fragile. If something happens to one of your tent poles most sporting goods store sell repair kits or replacement poles.
Make sure that your tent has a big enough umbrella, which covers the tent. The top will be waterproof and the tent walls are water repellant.
Check the seams to make sure that they are double stitched or have folded seams because if the tent does not have this type of stitches it will leak. Before you use the tent for the first time, make sure that you use the product called seam sealer on all the seams. In order to make sure it is completely leak proof, look at the floor. You want to make sure that it is made from waterproof material. It should be sewn to the tent walls and come up the sides a few inches. Make sure that there are loops to attach guide wires so the tent will be staked down and it does not flap in the wind.
Other things that you need to check is to make sure it has the right meshing to keep out the bugs, it has a vent in the roof, and zippers that are heavy duty because you will be using the tent as a home. Now you have the basics of buying a tent before you go shopping for your first tent.
