Accent Chairs

Good things come in small packages, or so they say. This can certainly be true for accent chairs, which are small for living room furniture and yet can have a disproportionate amount of power in making for a good overall living room decor. Not only that, but bedroom accent chairs can be used for the same purpose, enhancing and sometimes even saving a bedroom from disaster. How is this possible for something that, to the casual observer, appears to be just a chair? Read on and you will find out.

One of the most powerful ways in which an accent chair can tie a room together is by providing contrast, which can be in terms of color, pattern, or both. Sometimes, a living room will just look dull if all the furniture is uniform or of the same or similar color. This can apply to black living room furniture, and indeed some people avoid buying a black sofa set thinking it will make their living room look gloomy. While this can happen, it does not have to, and there are some easy ways to make sure it doesn’t. One is through the use of red accent chairs. Red, while not the opposite of black, provides a very energetic contrast to it and will easily take a room from gloomy to interesting. And just a little bit of red is necessary- an accent chair or two would likely provide enough, though the use of red end tables is another way. Sometimes, accent chairs that “stick out” provide just enough visual contrast to completely change the atmosphere of a room.

Another way bedroom and living room accent chairs function is in terms of space, namely the filling of dead space. They do so in a way that might also provide contrast, but the key here is that they are a practical and relatively inexpensive way to do so. Upholstered accent chairs are much cheaper than stuffed chairs that are basically small sofas, and they can be easily moved around. At the same time, they are functional because they serve as extra seating space for guests. There’s simply no other piece of furniture at that cost which can do what an accent chair does.

Some specific considerations include upholstery materials and design- do you want leather accent chairs or fabric accent chairs? Leather chairs are a good way to bring this more expensive material into the living room without shelling out a lot of cash. In terms of design, armless accent chairs can be great in more modern living rooms as they tend to be more minimal in design.
