A single duvet (pronounced as due-vay) or down comforter is a cloth bag filled with, feathers, silk fibers, cloth fibers, synthetic fiber or whatever stuffing is available. A single duvet gives you warmth and comfort during cold winter nights. In buying a single duvet one must take certain considerations:
Silk fibers & silk out shell for instance are for those people who are perceptive with their sense of touch, since silk is smooth, incredibly soft and delicate. It is also for those who want to have an elegant decorative effect in their bedroom. When I was a child, I was given this silk dress, having worn it once, I had it washed in the washing machine. When it was done, my dress was torn into pieces. Silk fiber requires being dry-cleaned or else it will be ruined forever. It’s pricey to have bought it, so having it washed needs special care too. A silk duvet is for comfort, quality and sophistication.
Cotton Shell and cotton fiberfill accommodate those individuals who want moderate softness and practicality. It is moderately delicate and at a fair price than silk. It gives you the utmost feeling of warmth. But, in taking care of the duvet, it is best to have it dry-cleaned rather than having it machine-washed so that it will remain its shape and it wouldn’t turn tattered and lumpy. Similar to our clothes, the colors will eventually fade having it washed frequent times.
Duvet filled with synthetic fabric is the most economical. It is lightweight and ultra sheer and dries fast. One may have this machine washed since it will just bounce back to its natural form. However the softness and the quality defeat the softness and the comfort of the other two and it’s bulky to store.
Goose down filled duvet is good for the outdoors, since it will insulate body heat at a comfortable temperature. However, it is also expensive and cleaning and maintenance must be dry-cleaned. This kind of duvet is good for both warm and cold temperature since it will just cut off body heat at a relaxed temperature.
