Corn Hole Bag Tossing Tips

It would be easy to conclude that throwing corn hole bags is easy and requires little in the way of skill, but this would be a faulty assumption.  The truth of the matter is that heaving a corn hole bag is much like pitching a baseball; accuracy and variety are absolutely essential.  Different situations call for different kinds of tosses.

The most common pitch is the Frisbee throw.  The bag is flipped around a vertical axis, and has the appearance of a spinning saucer as it flies through the air.  This toss is best used when there are no other bags on the board and you’re going for a straight-on shot into the hole.  The faster the spin the better, as it will help a corner to snag the hole and possibly drop in as the bag glides by.  It will also help to increase friction when the bag strikes the board, which means that it will slow down faster and decrease the chances of it going straight off the board.

Another useful technique is the “knuckle-bag” toss.  This is thrown in such a manner that there is virtually no spin or movement as the corn hole bag soars through the air.  The benefit of this throw is that it tends to lead to greater accuracy, and it can be useful when their are already bags on the board that need to be rolled over.

Finally, consider an end-over-end pitch when trying to knock an opponent’s bag off the board.  This will create more force on impact, which can send another bag flying out of contention.  Though some may question the integrity of such a move, it should be noted that there is nothing in the official corn hole game rules that expressly forbids it.

At the end of the day, it all comes down to how accurate you are and how many different throws you have up your sleeve.  By widening your repertoire of pitches you will be prepared for almost any situation, and you will increase your odds of emerging victorious from the corn hole bag game.
