I find having a unique design in my living room is a great way to impress people with my home. One of the easier ways to keep it unique is by adding wicker, a material that is often used, but not used well. Wicker is a lightweight material that is inexpensive, yet strong enough to hold anything it needs to (including people!) Here are a few reasons why I have found wicker to be so great for my needs.
To start, I simply put a wicker chest against the wall. That way I could experiment with the look, and use it to keep some odds and ends cleaned up (mostly extra pillows and some old magazines). Well, the coloring of the wicker looked good in the room, thanks to the fact that the room already had a reddish undertone to it that matched the brown of the wicker well, and it wasn’t in the way at all. I ended up putting it near the base of my staircase, where it is still sitting, and still looking good, without drawing excess attention to itself.
I think part of what draws me to it is the natural aspect of it. Wicker is nothing more than reeds, woven together and then dried to make a very firm product. I’ve seen furniture, couches and benches made of it, so it’s certainly sturdy. And amazingly, it’s very inexpensive for its size. All these things add together to make a useful product that is easy to test and try out on your own – you won’t be out much if you don’t like it.
So if you’re looking to add something new, try some wicker furniture – even something as potentially bulky as large wicker storage baskets will likely fit into your home better than you would imagine, and their practicality means that they’ll likely stay there too.
