Outdoor wood rocking chairs are often the first piece of furniture that little kids have active memories of. They use cribs, cradles, diaper changing tables, and normal furniture, but the first piece of furniture they often remember encountering as ‘furniture’ is some sort of rocking chair. There is a world of difference between how good a basket backed rocking chair looks and a basket backed rocking chair with one little hole that’s been expanded too big by a kid playing with a pencil looks. Kids run into wood all the time, and are less likely to pick at it, but wicker furniture is pretty rare, and often the first time kids see it, they want to ‘play’ with it, which usually involves ruining part of the wicker.
