The Lawn Sweeper vs. The Leaf Blower

The debate on the lawn sweeper vs. the leaf blower has been going on for a long time. Both are used to clean dry fallen leaves, grass, weeds and other debris from a garden. Though they have the same function but differ completely in the way they are to be operated. The basic difference is that the former is handled manually while the later is fully automatic.

Lawn sweeper has been around for a very long time. In fact until the leaf blower was invented, it was the only way to efficiently clean gardens.  It resembles a push mower with an added catcher. When it is pushed through the lawn, the brush spins and collects grass, dry leaves, stones, twigs etc into the catcher. The debris can then be emptied into a garbage bin.

Lawn sweepers are extremely light weight and can be easily operated by anybody. The sharp blade cleans an area completely with very gentle strokes. It is even useful for cleaning driveways or pathways after a mild snowfall.  For a prolonged existence, a lawn sweeper must be cleaned and dried properly after each use.

A leaf blower on the other hand, is a motor powered hand held devise. Instead of collecting leaves, it is known to scatter leaves to a rubbish pile or gutters. It is helpful in cleaning balconies, patios, sidewalks and decks very quickly. Some blowers even may mulch the collected leaves and turn them into fertilizers. It is available in various size and models which are powered by gas, batteries or electricity.

Lawn sweeper is preferred by environmentally concerned citizens because it produces zero pollution and is completely soundless. Unlike the leaf blowers which produce lot of noise and create a considerable amount of pollution.  It has been banned in many places for being noisy and environmentally damaging. Though leaf blowers take less time to clean but lawn sweeper is much more enjoyable to use.
