Whenever you think of chandeliers, what usually comes to mind are the crystal ones. This is because the crystal or cut glass chandeliers have become so synonymous with chandeliers that most stores do not stock too many other designs.
This is not to say that there are no other kinds of chandeliers; far from it there are quite beautiful chandeliers made in wrought iron and steel. You even get chandeliers made of antlers that will look really amazing in a semi rustic setting. Out of all these chandeliers people very rarely think of the glass chandelier. The glass chandelier is not the same as the crystal chandelier because while the frame and arms of the crystal chandelier is made of iron or steel the glass chandelier is made entirely of glass. The whole thing including the stem, framework, designs and everything is made of glass. The only lighting system that even approaches something like this would be the crystal candle stands that are made entirely of glass.
These chandeliers are usually handmade and are very expensive because of this. If you have the money, however, there is nothing else that will give you the same level of sophistication that a glass chandelier would. These chandeliers are obviously not too elaborately made and very rarely extend too far from the central stem. Glass is very heavy but not too strong, and will break easily if too much stress is placed on it.
Because these chandeliers are handmade, there is no fixed design for them and you get chandeliers in uniquely shaped designs. Since the whole chandelier is made of glass most of them are very simple although you do get the intricately crafted ones which are much more expensive. In fact most of the money that you give will be for the craftsmanship and the more intricate it is the more expensive these chandeliers will be.
Getting one is not too easy as most department stores tend not to stock them. They are very slow moving and are not preferred by many people because they are so fragile. If you go online however you will find many more designs and most manufacturers also give you the option of purchasing directly from them. Check it out and see, you just might like something.
