If you collect seasonal items, is it necessary to change out the shelves for collectibles they are shown on to match the collectibles themselves? Or is this even possible?
To make a nice display, having complimentary shelves for collectibles is a good point. But just how much are you willing to change the walls in your house as the seasons change and your collectibles on display follow suit? Lacy, frilly shelves to hold spring and Easter collectibles would be nice, and the collectibles and season beg for the shelves to be painted white. White is also a good color for summer shelves and collectibles, especially if the summer theme is the beach and ocean. But, come fall, and wood tone shelves are better for displaying autumn colored collectibles. Winter dark would seem to require dark wood display shelves for collectibles, although white would work again if the collection is of objects connected to snow, like snow globes and figurines of children playing in the snow.

What if, instead of varying the shelves themselves, you just use table runners and doilies to provide the white while the shelves remain wood color. That could work. Just using different fabric to line the shelves suitably for the season and the colectibles might be the best choice. Pale green material for spring, a medium blue, like the sky, for summer, gold or brown for fall, and white or dark green for winter. That could make your decorative shelving fit with the collectibles on display nicely.
Perhaps the best way to get around having suitable shelves for your season displays is to use floating shelf brackets or floating corner shelves. These are the least intrusive way to supply wall shelving of glass, and glass shelving lets the collectibles say the most for themselves by being nearly invisible. The shelf lining for each season would also work in this instance.
Having season shelves and brackets for shelves has only one serious problem, and that is the continual mounting of new shelves and the hardship this will cause on your walls. If you really want to change out the shelves for your collectibles by the season, you will need to get with a hardware man and fit all the shelves in question with one system of attachment to the wall, keeping the damage to the wall at a minimum. Then you are all set to have seasonal shelving to suit the seasonal collectibles you display.
