Floor rugs come in many different categories, styles and types. Their availability in a wide range of styles, designs, patterns and materials make them exceptionally popular with homeowners all around the world. One such rug is the braided rugs. Why is this particular rug so appealing?
Braided rugs have long been used as a way to combat the cold and to protect feet from the cold floors. They were first made by the womenfolk in the days of the early settlers. In those days these braided floor coverings were made from strips of material taken from blanket and clothes that were no longer worn. That is why each piece is unique and distinct in its look. The use of different materials in one piece provided the unmistakable look of various colors and patterns in one rug.
These days there are still many of these unique area rugs around. However today they can be found either hand woven or machine woven. Hand woven ones can be found in home furnishing stores or at craft markets where they are normally sold by the very people who braid them. Machine woven ones are available widely in stores and online. Machine weaving makes it possible for these rugs to be produced in other shapes compared to the traditional round and oval. Today you can find square and rectangle ones as well.
Comparing the two types of braided rugs, you can say that the hand woven ones will cost you more. That’s because a great deal of work went into producing each piece. The whole process can take up quite some time. Machine woven ones will most probably be cheaper as they take less time to produce.
In machine weaving also, there is the possibility of the rugs being produced using what is known as the tubular method. In this method material is wrapped around a tube and subsequently stitched into a rug. So no actual braiding takes place, unlike the traditional method of lat braiding. That could account for their even cheaper selling price.
Braided rugs look great in the home. You can place them anywhere and instantly transform the area into looking beautiful and inviting.
