Why on earth would you want to wear cheap rubber band bracelets? Perhaps the very simple reason could be that they are hot and probably will be for a time to come yet.
Remember Lance Armstrong? Who? Lance won a record seven Tour de France cycle races in the 2000s. During the race, Armstrong wore a simple yellow wristband. Signifying his win against multiple cancers, this wristband became the progenitor of the craze we see today.
The Lance Armstrong Foundation has distributed over forty million of those yellow rubber band bracelets since about 2003. These bracelets symbolize the fact that Armstrong himself has beaten cancer. As a young man, age twenty five, Lance Armstrong was diagnosed with testicular cancer. Then he was diagnosed with stomach cancer, lung cancer and brain cancer. He could have given up but he didn’t, he won the fight and went on to an unprecedented cycling career.
One single dollar, that is all it takes to be part of the Livestrong movement. Still being distributed at an estimated rate of two hundred thousand a day, significant amounts are being raised for cancer research and patient care.
When you look at bracelets, sometimes the biggest decision is “What color do I want?” And now, some companies are offering a choice a shapes as well, although I am not sure how many different shapes of round there is.
The BBC, in England, came out with a wristband that became very popular with soccer players. It was blue and had the simple phrase ‘Beat Bullying’ on it. In the United States, bands with the phrase ‘Support Our Troops’ have become popular.
But if you want elegant, you don’t count on a rubber band bracelet to do the trick. No you want something a little more extravagant and more expensive for sure. What you want is cushion cut engagement ring. That will do the trick.
