Rabbit Cages and Your Bunny

Many people who get rabbits for the first time are somewhat surprised at exactly how much they cost.  There are of course ways to adopt a rabbit for free, but you’ll also have to spend a considerable amount of money on various supplies.  Don’t forget about things like food, hay, and of course rabbit cages.  Your rabbit cage is going to be one of the most important investments that you make for your new pet.  It will serve as a home away from home in addition to being a vital training ground as well.

Some first time rabbit owners make the mistake of buying a rabbit cage that is too small.  Remember that if you are getting a rabbit from an early age it will be quite small compared to its potential.  Rabbits can double and even quadruple in size when they reach adulthood.  So make sure that you get a cage that is going to last you a long time.  And don’t forget about the fact that it has to house all of the various supplies that a rabbit needs such as a food dish and a water bowl.

Your rabbit cage will be essential in the process of litter training.  One important aspect of rabbit care is taking the time to litter train your pet so that it doesn’t create a mess all over your home.  This process is actually quite easy and all you need is a litter box that will fit into your cage.  Slowly get your rabbit accustomed to doing its business in the litter box, and you will find that it returns there every time after.

Rabbit cages also come in handy if you want to introduce another bunny onto the scene.  Throwing two rabbits into one cage at the same time can cause troubles, so you want to get the two rabbits accustomed to each other while living are in separate cages.  After a few weeks you can introduce them into the same cage and you will find that they get along a lot better.
