The Air Jordan 9 is the only one of the Jordan which did not manage to do fairly well in the consumer market. Some of the plausible reasons could be that it was released after Michael Jordan’s first retirement. As we all know that Michael Jordan endorsed the Jordan line , his retirement might have had a negative effect on the sales of this shoe.
Many people are also of the view that due to the fact that Michael Jordan never played a full season of NBA which these shoes, that might have also led to a low amount of publicity for the Air Jordan 9 and as a result did not manage to boost up its sales. Hence, one plausible reason for the poor performance of the shoe could be due to lack of exposure on behalf of Michael Jordan and his retirement.
Another reason why the Air Jordan 9 might have not managed to enthrall the public is due to the fact that a rival brand had produced a better show. The Air Force Max had managed to outdo all of the Air Jordans features and left no room for competition. While the Jordan sat on the shelves of the stores, the AFM was bought rapidly by all the people who played basketball. Even though the Air Jordan was cheaper compared to the Air Force Max, the latter still did much better than the Jordan.
Although this shoe was not as popular as the other members of the Air Jordan shoe line, it still was a favorite of Michael Jordan. This shoe won a place in his heart and because of that he decided to make the Air Jordan 9 popular in his own way. There is a statue of Michael Jordan outside of the United Center in Illinois and it is mostly famous because of the fact that he is wearing these shoes!
