A lot of people hate traffic signs. I myself sometimes view them as a hindrance to driving. It is not the signs but the fact that they represent rules that generates those negative feelings. Although I and others hate rules, they prevent accidents and save lives. Not all traffic signs represent rules though, there are signs that warn of danger that drivers may not know about if they are not familiar with the area.
The purpose of traffic signs are to help prevent accidents on the road. Much thought was spent on the construction of the roads and safety of those that use it. If these planners thought it was important to put a sign on the road, it would be wise to pay attention to that sign. How frustrating would it be if you spent a lot of time creating a travel plan for someone to an exotic location. While doing so, you thought about all of the hazardous things that they might come across and put in careful direction of what they should try to avoid or how to handle certain people in different locations. The people you planned this trip for then went on the trip and didn’t pay attention to any of the instruction that you gave them, instead they thought they knew better than you do without having the same expertise that you do. How would that make you feel?

Not only do traffic signs help save lives, they are actually cool. In apartments it is common to see traffic signs hanging on walls and doors. I have been jealous of these apartments because it gave the apartment more life than those that I’ve lived in.
Barricades are also seen while you drive. A common type of barrier is those that divide traffic that travel in opposite directions. If there were no barrier a car could pass over the line and head in oncoming traffic. This could happen because the driver was drunk, sleeping, or just not paying attention. The result of this could lead to head on collisions, which is a dangerous accident for anyone to be apart of.
Even though you may think that you know how to drive and don’t need traffic signs or barricades, they do help prevent accidents. You never know when one traffic sign may warn you of something you did not know preventing an accident. You can never know which traffic sign helped someone else and prevented an accident. Barricades in the same way could help prevent one accident which may have cause multiple deaths. Traffic signs and barricades do indeed help prevent accidents and deaths and as such are our friends.
